Tools For Cleaning Windows At Height

Dirty windows can soon tarnish the look of your property. While it’s easy to clean windows on the lower floors or internally, that’s not the case with windows which are located at height. Ladders aren’t the safest option, and manually scrubbing glass when you don’t have your feet on solid ground poses plenty of hazards too.

That’s why it’s imperative to invest in the right pieces of kit. Not only will doing so make the job safer to complete, but it will ensure even stubborn debris is removed with ease. This will make cleaning your windows far less hassle and time consuming than traditional methods.

Extension Poles

Here at WCO, our extension poles range from 0.3m to 13m high. We stock leading brands such as Ettore, Glidex, Moerman and Wagtail. While height is an obvious benefit of extension poles, other advantages include how lightweight they are not to mention ergonomic.

Several different attachments can be added to extension poles. This includes precise tools such as scrub bars, and fly screen removals. On the handle, you can even switch up the grip bar to make it easier to operate too.

When it comes to picking the right extension pole, you first need to work out how high you wish to extend to. For example, does your property have more than two storeys? If so, you’ll require a longer pole than the average home. Likewise, if you only wish to clean one floor up the full 30 meters wouldn’t be necessary.

The accessories you choose will also depend on whether you are lifting stubborn dirt (first time clean) or just require a general clean. As always, we’d be more than happy to assist if you’re unsure.

Pure Water Fed Systems

Did you know that regular tap water contains sediment? If you’ve struggled to get a streak-free finish on your windows, the wrong water (or detergent) is likely the cause! As the name suggests, pure water fed systems use purified water which in short means that dirt is removed and not applied to your windows as you clean them.

While we’d recommend pure water fed systems in general, they do have an excellent advantage where cleaning at height is concerned. That’s because the water tank can be connected to poles of various lengths. Whatsmore, the poles themselves will also connect to a number of attachments. The results allow for powerful cleaning at height, without having to worry about streaks or drying time.

Brush Heads

As we alluded to, water fed systems can connect to several brush heads. Brush heads are responsible for dispensing the water that will clean your windows. So, no trying to balance a bucket of water on a ladder anymore!

A popular brush head is the Shifter With V Jets Water Fed Brush, which is made from polyester and nylon bristles. This offers just the right balance between dirt agitation without scraping or damaging the surfaces of the glass. It will work up high with very little effort required.

Belts & Holsters

Whether you choose to clean windows at height via an abseil or if you’re firmly on the ground using an extension pole - the least amount of items you have to carry the better. Belts and holsters are a must-have accessory for window cleaning, especially if you do so professionally. It means you can keep all the essentials close by without having to bend down or twist to get them.
